Sinhala Character Version of BJT Dhammapadapàëã in Word Document Format (133 KB)
Pàëi 1 is substantially a transliteration of the Sinhala version of the text as printed in the Buddha Jayanti Tripitaka Series, Volume XXIV. In preparing this edition the corrigenda (÷uddhi patraya) as printed on page xxvi of that volume have been taken into account. Other corrections, made by the present editor while preparing this edition of the text, have been noted in the appropriate place.
In the original edition there were many cases where BJT was inconsistent in its use of punctuation, layout, and entering of notes. Here an attempt has been made to present a more standardized version of the text in this regard, but as the matter is trivial on the one hand, and extremely numerous on the other, these sort of changes have not been noted.
Pàëi 2 is a new edition of the text of the Dhammapada prepared by the present writer which has been established through a comparison of the four main printed editions of the text as they appear in the standard Sinhala, European, Thai, & Burmese editions.
English 1 is the translation of the text into lucid English by the great Indian scholar Ven Buddharakkhita. Please note that this translation is also available in book form from the Buddhist Publication Society. We are most grateful to the BPS for making this text available for the Internet.
English 2 is the well-known translation by Ven Nàrada. Here we present only the text and notes, but please note that elsewhere on this Website is the full text of the 4th edition of the Ven Nàrada's Dhammapada, which has the Pàëã text as established by that writer, the translation, a synopsis of the commentarial background stories, together with Ven Nàrada's doctrinal notes.
In preperation is another version of the text, which will show the parallels from the main Sanskrit and Pràkrit sources.
